HP's Mini 1000 currently comes in two versions, the Mini 1000 XP and the swanky Mini 1000 VT (Vivienne Tam Edition). One of the great things about the HP (as well as the Dell and the Lenovo) is that you can custom build your netbook on the HP site and order it built for you. A great feature of configuring your own is that you can get a nice netbook fairly cheaply. On the other hand, those super nice features really add up quickly and if you can't hold back your shopping cart will be well over $600 before you know it. HP gives you the option of a 8.9" or 10.2" display (for just an additional $50). From what I can tell the only thing that the VT edition gets you is the beautiful case design and a couple of minor free upgrades, but nothing that you couldn't add to the base model and save $150. All things considered, the HP Mini 1000 looks to be a solid competitor in the mid-size netbook market.
